In 2021, Nando conducted a field trial with the Institute of Agrobiology in Ukraine – the aim of the trial was to evaluate the biological effects of Nando’s microbial product BioNPK Powder S on maize crop productivity. The final results were firmly positive with the 12.0 – 16.9% growth in crop yield (compared to control).

The field trials were conducted in Ukraine. The research procedure involved 4 technology variants: control, model preparation (reference product), minimum and maximum (recommended) rate of BioNPK Powder S.

To ensure the accuracy of the data, each variant was tested on three maize field areas. Data about meteorological conditions, biometrical indices of the plants, the maize yield and its quality were collected during the trial.

For the field trials, maize hybrid LG3350 was used. This hybrid is medium-ripening, resistant to lodging, diseases (fusarial head blight and boil smut).

Planting date: 12.05.2021.

Planting rate: 70 thousand seeds/hectares.

Planting depth: 3-4 cm.

Planting width: 65 cm.

The area of research plots was 25 m2 and the plots location stayed systematic.

Maize seeds were treated with Nando’s BioNPK Powder S preparation before planting. Plant root fertilization was performed before the appearance of shoots. Accordingly, the rate of the preparation solution consumption was 200 l.

The field studies of the biological effectiveness of the BioNPK Powder S preparation on maize showed a positive impact on the overall growth of maize plants and crop productivity parameters. In summary:

  • By applying Nando’s BioNPK Powder S the maize yield grew respectively by 12.0 – 16.9% compared to the control group; while the weight of 1000 grains rose by 12.3 – 14.2%. The BioNPK Powder S preparation also outperformed the reference product by grain yield – by 2.2 – 6.6%, and by the weight of 1000 grains – by 3.1 – 4.9%.
  • BioNPK Powder S increased the maize grain quality parameters by 0.9 – 3.5% (by starch content) and by 1.0 – 3.1% (by protein content).
  • Finally, the maize crops also showed an increase in the leaf development, resulting from the application of Nando’s preparation. Compared to the reference product during the stalk shooting phase, the area of the leaf surface of the maize plants grew by 6.21 – 13.25%, while one leaf size on average grew by 1.31- 4.29%.
